Rhubarb Fest YYC is a volunteer-run family festival organized by the dedicated members of the Southwood Community Association. Year over year, we continue to see the festival expand their presence and recipe for fun. Rhubarb Fest is really doing ‘community’ right as they bring in new community partners and become an event destination outside of the downtown core.
Challenge
Rhubarb fest was looking to continue its festival offerings of a traditional BBQ and rhubarb pie, and expand with new offerings like a beer garden and market, without the associated negative environmental impacts.
Towards Zero Waste
Green Event Services worked with the Southwood Community Association, Rhubarb Fest’s organizers to both educate on and implement waste reduction tactics to suit the relaxed, activity-oriented, family-filled event. We developed an inventory of compostable food ware helped the festival’s guests learn about composting, and truly, about how such a simple action can make a world of difference.
